Clopay Weather Seal Replacement: The Valley Center Owner’s Guide

• T-channel (single slot): Found on most Classic, Gallery, and Value Series doors from the last 20 years. The seal slides into a T-shaped groove in the bottom aluminum retainer.
• Bead-end (round bead): Common on older Clopay residential doors and some Coachman Series units. The bead presses into a circular channel and gets pinched in place.
• Snap-in (U-shaped clip): Used on newer Clopay doors with a bottom retainer that grabs the seal from below. If yours snaps in, you can usually pull the old one out by hand once it’s loose.

The quickest way to identify yours: look at the bottom edge of the door while it’s closed. If the rubber is pushed into a groove you can see from the outside, it’s a T-channel. If the rubber wraps around a round bead, you’ve got a bead-end. If you’re still not sure, measure the width of the channel opening with the old seal pulled back an inch. • Daylight under the closed door. This is the simplest test: close the door, look along the bottom from inside. If you see light, the seal is compressed, torn, or no longer reaching the floor evenly. That gap is where dust, mice, and water get in.
• Cracks or splits in the rubber. Valley Center heat dries out seals until they crack at the folds. Once a split starts, it only widens with each open-close cycle. A cracked seal isn’t sealing anything.

• Flattened or permanently bent sections. If part of the seal is smashed flat and stays that way when the door opens, the rubber’s memory is gone. It won’t rebound to fill the gap anymore.

After a rainstorm, if you see a wet line or fine dust pooled inside the garage along the door, the seal is routing water under the door instead of stopping it. That water sits against the bottom panel and eventually rots it, which is a much more expensive repair.
